Robert “Bobby” Goninan joined the fire service in the spring of 1977 as a “Future” of the Riverdale Heights Volunteer Fire Department and held many positions over the years. He has served as President of the corporation since 2012.
In 2012 Bobby was offered a job working as an independent sales person for Aflac. He jumped at the chance to work with a great team that has been the #1 group in Aflac year after year.
His first case that he worked on was the Prince George’s County account signing up the career fire/ems members. He realized that the volunteer members of which he was a part of needed the same coverage. That they deserved to have the cancer, accident and critical illness coverage that the rest of Prince George’s County offered to all paid staff in the county.
Bobby met up with the President of the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association and created a group with Aflac to offer the same great benefits.
Bobby had the opportunity to work at Southern Maryland Insurance and jumped at the chance to work with a great team of people. SMI insures more fire departments than any other company for property and casualty insurance. Being mentored by 2 of the best people in insurance, he honed his skills and resources and set out to provide the same great service in the supplemental insurance field that was offered in the property and casualty sector.
Over time he has worked with First Responders in Baltimore Co., Montgomery Co. DCFD, Anne Arundel Co, Arlington Co, Fairfax Co.
Bobby started Fire Services Benefits with one goal. Ensure that every First Responder in the state of Maryland has access to the best supplemental benefits available. Today we offer Cancer coverage, Critical Illness coverage, Permanent Life Insurance, Accident coverage. All at group rates, and Guaranteed Issue.
